Still Breathing is a narrative documentary of Rob Fraser, who is a chronic cystic fibrosis patient. He is the only narrator, and as we see his struggle with the disease and lung transplant, he reflects on his birth with the virus, the disease’s progression, and his search for a new lung through transplantation. He tells the viewer that he will make a young, good-looking corpse. Medical headlines fuel his hope for a genetic cure. His various treatments and breathing apparatus do little to halt his hospitalization and deterioration. Throughout Rob’s narration, cinematographer Jennie Meaney’s artistic videography, lapping waves, water dripping, flowing rivulets, is interesting, but seems out of place. It detracts from the reality of what Rob and the viewers are encountering. Not recommended for purchase.
