The National Film Board of Canada has a stellar reputation for producing stellar independent films. It makes one wonder what their intent was with Truth and Betrayal.

Everything about the film is designed to attract a young, mostly high school audience. The film style is similar to NYPD Blue/MTV music video. The soundtrack is solid electronica, one that grabs the viewers' attention, especially to the drama. The main characters are young and attractive, all who find themselves in some moral dilemma. The enclosed classroom guide directs to a full teacher's guide, and suggests pre- and post-screening activities.

Do the producers and distributors really expect librarians and youth centers to purchase, and teachers and counselors to show this film to teens with characters who use the "f" word continually? In a feature film, one could argue such dialogue adds realism. However, for a short film that is supposed to provoke teen discussion, it puts the leader at risk for criticism or reprimand. Not recommended for classroom use. Preview before purchasing.
