Urban Firefighters: Miami's Rescue 12 was filmed by producer, writer, director, and then firefighter Michael Trebilcock while off duty. Miami Fire Station #12 is one of the busiest in the United States. Most of the filming centers on Christmas night 1995. Though the basic mission of firefighters doesn't change over the years, much else has, including the name of the profession. Interviews with the firefighters reveal that most are also trained paramedics and most calls are not for fires anymore. The urban area of Miami 12 accounts for many gunshot wounds and assault calls with rescuers more wary of blood contact than burns. The live fire footage adds a personal face to the firefighters' efforts. Urban Firefighters: Miami's Rescue 12 is a recent winner of the CINE Gold Eagle Competition which is administered by the Council on International Non-theatrical Events. Though not an essential purchase it would make a fine addition to Public Library collections.
