The Process is, essentially, a filmed Masters Class in directing given by Larry Moss, famed Hollywood acting coach, who has worked with a litany of A-list actors. The 47 minute film focuses on one scene from Tootsie being worked by a young student director and his actors. Moss, with guest James L. Brooks, dissect and rework the scene multiple times in order to find its comedy and truth.

While it is an entertaining class and both Moss and Brooks have salient points to make, there are few lessons revealed here beyond the idea that a scene can be approached a variety of ways. It is a bit troubling how Moss takes over the direction, leaving the student director as a mere audience member through much of it, with little of his original vision still present at the end. Nonetheless, it could certainly give directing and acting students a look at a scene in process, which can always be a valuable tool.
