It isn’t long after 15-year-old Agustina and her mother move to Resignación that the citizens of the small Argentinian town take notice. While Irene attracts the attention of the local mayor, her daughter finds herself the object of her school mate Pedro’s affection. Soon, complications ensue as the young people awkwardly navigate unknown psychological and physiological territory before a happy resolution is reached. What saves this charming boy meets girl/boy gets girl story from cliché is to be found in its light humor and story-telling details.

With inventive camera angles and cinematography, director Lublinsky (Hortensia, Tres minutos) demonstrates both a unique and highly effective style. Overhead projections of stationary scenes and simple interior shots give the film a dreamy quality that works well with the coming-of-age narrative, as does the fictional setting and indeterminate time period.

Recommended for film studies and Spanish language and culture classes. In Spanish with English subtitles.
