Outcry and Whisper is a documentary about women's rights in Mainland China. This documentary shows the shocking footage of the lives and stories of many women in China.

The documentary follows certain women in their everyday life and during certain political/social movements. The footage is shocking but beautiful. It is real and raw, which is what makes this documentary very valuable for viewers. There are not many scenes in China that are filmed this way. The director's perspective added so much value to the interviews of the women and the footage they got.

This film is mixed with animation. This mixed media approach allows for the story to move forward and for certain points to be made. I was not sure how adding animation to a documentary would go, but I can say that it adds value to the stories of the women that we meet in the film.

There is graphic and mature content in this document. It is shocking and raw. Viewers should be prepared because the first scene is of a woman cutting her face in a checker pattern and the blood is dripping down her eyes and face. It is a very shocking way to start this documentary, but it adds seriousness that this documentary looks at some very serious topics of the women's rights political/social movement in mainland China.

I recommend Outcry and Whisper with restrictions due to the graphic and mature content. This documentary is a very good depiction of life in China for women and would add great value to a class discussion on China and woman's rights. It is also a great documentary for the general, adult population who want to learn more on this topic.
