This video cassette is a series of three short programs entitled “Engaging a Contractor or Consultant”, “Managing the Contract”, and “Resolving Conflict and Disputes.” Through out these programs the viewer follows a team consisting of three business people in an organization (a project manager, someone who appears to be her supervisor, and the IT person) and an outside consultant hired for an IT project within the organization. Each program has an opening and closing slide containing the main points of that program, and when needed, additional slides are inserted to further illustrate specific concepts presented. It was disappointing that there was no introduction at the beginning of this video to indicate how these three programs related to each other or a conclusion at the end to wrap everything up. Perhaps it was intended that each program be used individually as part of training sessions lead by human resources or organizational development professionals. If this was the case, each program had only 15 minutes to introduce some complex concepts. A better title for this video might have been perhaps ‘understanding some of the dynamics of working with a contractor/consultant within an organization.’

The audio was clear during the dramatizations within each program, the slides easy to read, and similarly the sets were uncluttered. Yet, each program opened with an animation that could be considered distracting by some viewers. While this video could be used within an organizational or classroom environment, additional materials would probably be needed to enrich the materials presented.
