This film explains the controversy behind the purported connection between the MMR (measles, mumps and rubella) immunization and the recent rise in the incidence of autism, and then examines the scientific evidence for that connection. Produced for a British television audience, Injecting Fear contains interviews with health professionals, scientists and parents of autistic children and seeks commentary on the issue from all sides, including pros and cons of delaying or altering the MMR schedule. While it ultimately comes down on the side of the “overwhelming majority” of scientists convinced that there is no connection, it presents the views and challenges of parents of victims with sensitivity and compassion. This well-researched, informative program would be a suitable and timely addition to consumer health collections.
