Most people who have only visited the Louvre museum in Paris in the last 10 years may be unaware that a massive restoration and renovation project was conducted from 1983-1993. The Grand Louvre documents this massive project, providing clear footage of each step along the way, and discussing the Louvre’s history. Interviews are conducted with former French President François Mitterand and I.M. Pei, the architect who talks about the controversial pyramid in front of the museum. The Louvre’s collections are not highlighted in this video, but the viewer is given a glimpse of the rooms in the Richelieu aisle and foundations of the former palace that date back to the 12th century. The sound and images are very clear and the video is well organized and easy to follow. This video is highly recommended to people interested in art and art history. It may also be enjoyable for people interested in visiting the Louvre to gain a better appreciation of the building itself.
