If heart disease is so readily recognized as the number one killer of adults, why is it that so few of us have more than a vague notion of what it is and how to prevent it? This video seeks to address both issues of heart disease definition and prevention through a comprehensive, if basic, overview of the subject from a layman's perspective. Through interviews with patients, medical experts, and the man in the street, interspersed with graphics of the healthy and diseased heart, How to Have a Healthy Heart explains exactly what is meant by the terms, "heart disease," "heart attack" and "angina," what the risk factors are for heart disease and how to prevent it. In addition some of the most common cardiology tests are thoroughly explained. All is presented in plain language, even the interviews with the medical experts. Although the setting and the individuals presented in the video are British, there's little in the work that would limit it strictly to UK audiences. While some references to additional sources of information on the subject would be helpful, it is possible that the developers of Healthy Heart did not wish to overwhelm the target audience with too much information. Good viewing for junior or senior high health classes as well as newly diagnosed heart patients and their families.
