In Healing Exercises 1: For Body, Mind and Spirit (part of the Self-Help and Well Being Series), Penny Price is to be congratulated for bringing together four leading practitioners of mind/body healing. Tai Ji master Chungliang Al Huang, Dr. Ilana Rubenfeld, founder of the Rubenfeld Synergy Method, shamanistic healer Dr. Alberto Villoldo, and best-selling author and teacher Shakti Gawain. Each practitioner demonstrates a brief exercise in their area of expertise that is simple yet effective in illustrating each technique.

While all of the methods involve body, mind, and spirit, Chungliang Al Huang’s Five Elements of tai chi and Dr. Rubenfeld’s synergy exercises focus more on the physical body and are counterpoised with Dr. Villoldo’s chakra balancing which is more spiritual and Shakti Gawain’s guided meditation to heal and balance the four systems (emotional, physical, mental, and spiritual). Healing Exercises 1 provides a solid introduction to mind/body healing with some heavy-hitters in the field. It is highly recommended for academic library collections with a focus on health sciences, particularly alternative medicine. Public libraries will also find it a valuable purchase.
