Sewing Is My Art I (part 1 of the 2 part series) covers the basic tools and terms needed to begin a sewing project. These include items ranging from shears and needles to pressing cloths and irons. Interspersed throughout the video are short interviews with mostly young women talking about reasons they sew, personality traits needed to be successful at sewing, and basic problems that may be encountered on a project.

Sewing Is My Art II (part 2 of the 2 part series) follows the same format as Sewing Is My Art I. This video gives an overview of the parts and functions of the sewing machine, how to thread a machine, and basic instructions on its use. Both tapes are well paced and the audio and video are clear.

Unfortunately, there are some problems with this series. The biggest one being that there are only 2 videos in this series. The viewer is introduced to the basic tools and terms of sewing but is never actually shown how to sew or how to approach a sewing project. There are also a few points in part 2 that are either unclear or incorrect.

These videos could be used as an introduction to a lecture or workshop on sewing but do not offer enough information about sewing to stand on their own.
