Reviewed by Lori Widzinski, Health Sciences Library, University at Buffalo, State University of New YorkGeared for the young adult, this video excels at putting nutrition information in everyday terms and everyday situations that teens will appreciate. It is based, as the title says, on the USDA’s new MyPyramid food guidance system. It goes beyond that, however, to explain the basics of good nutrition, i.e. calories vs. activity, portion sizes, choosing the right foods and nutrient basics.
It is professionally produced with an attractive, lively host, bright colors, fast moving graphics and sound bytes. The New Dietary Guidelines video and accompanying Teacher’s Resource Book live up to the high standards Human Relations Media has already set with previous productions. This program used alone or in conjunction with the MyPyramid web site makes a complete introduction to good nutrition. Most appropriate for junior high school through junior college level media collections.
