Napoleon's expedition to Egypt in 1797, while meant to strike at the British, caused as much or more trouble with the Egyptians and ended up as a great military failure. However, it was a resounding success for our understanding of ancient Egypt. In this Franco-Egyptian production the producers have taken approximately 200 engravings done by members of the expedition and, using computer technology and live scenes and actors, literally brought this incident of some two centuries ago to life. Often, live scenes are superimposed on the computer enhanced engravings. Young people, and older ones for that matter, will be thrilled by the tour of an Egyptian temple. All of this production is a visual delight -- in other words, really neat. The narration, which is read very well, is a fine complement to the visuals. Concepts, things, and events concerning the expedition are all explained well. This marvelous production will work well with grades 8-12 and should also be considered by public libraries.
