The ten short works which comprise Reline were created by artists in the US and abroad using experimental hardware and software, and all manner of innovative processes and techniques. Incorporating video and audio, these digital montages range in approach from narrative to abstraction to the purely synthetic. In all of these works, technology is both the medium and ultimately the message - whether offered as tour de force or cautionary tale. For all their uniqueness of sound, imagery, and intent as individual works, the cumulative effect is a certain hard-edged relentlessness that is at once compelling and unsettling. The DVD includes biographical background on the artists, and technical and philosophical material on the works. For video stills, a brief trailer, and additional information on the project visit the Reline web site. Since its 2002 release Reline has been screened at film festivals, art museums, and a variety of other venues. An effective showcase for artists experimenting with new approaches to the visual image, Reline is recommended for libraries and educational programs with collections in contemporary, avant-garde, and digital art.
