This engaging, colorful and interestingly narrated film begins with a synopsis of the history of energy use among humans from prehistoric times to the present. The development of steam, oil and then nuclear-based energy has resulted in increasing impacts on the environment, to the point where global warming is now a nearly universally recognized peril to the planet. A form of energy production that results in minimal environmental impact is geothermal: using the pressure of subterranean water sources to push turbines and produce electricity. This form of energy is increasingly used worldwide; in tandem with other environmentally-friendly energy sources, e.g. wind and solar, it shows a way out of the impasse man finds himself in now with mounting population pressures and environmental effects.
