The documentary, Kilowatt Ours, tells the story of the impact of turning on a light switch. The film outlines the environmental and human health consequences of the increased need for energy. Completing the picture are suggestions about what the viewer can do to better manage energy consumption and lessen our reliance on fossil fuels.

Jeff Barrie does an impressive job in giving a sobering reality check on how energy consumption impacts our lives. The piece seems a bit overdramatic at times but that works to hammer home Mr. Barrieā€™s point. After watching the film, I thought about how much energy it took to power my television and VCR and the implications on the environment. Mr. Barrie delivers a film with hard hitting facts, interspersed with humor.

The video is clear and steady and the music is appropriate for the subject matter. The graphic animation is powerful in its delivery, adding to the worth of the piece.

This film is highly recommended for sr. high through adult audiences. Libraries with collections in the environmental and social sciences, as well as public libraries, would benefit by including this in their offerings.
