Reviewed by Jessica Schomberg, Minnesota State University, MankatoThis film follows three people in the small town of Jaranwala, Pakistan: an Australian poet who wed a Pakistani man and has lived in Pakistan for many years, her chef Nawaz, and her maid Mehnaz. Ostensibly focusing on the joys and heartaches associated with romantic love, this documentary provides insights into of the social, family, and religious structures that govern life in Jaranwala.
The film and sound quality are good. The narration is in English; yellow English subtitles provided where necessary.
Through a narrative featuring three individuals, this documentary highlights the complex social arrangements that form contemporary Pakistan. Highly recommended for academic libraries collecting materials about Central Asia.
