This NBC documentary, Sudden Impact: After the Crash, hosted by Tom Brokaw, explores the dire consequences suffered by five young victims of a deadly car wreck fueled by alcohol. Demonstrating the emotional, physical, sociological, financial, and legal impact to all involved, this program follows the victims and their families through a devastating year of surgeries, rehabilitation, stacks of hospital bills, tense courtroom scenes, and exhausting phone calls to insurance companies. Brokaw’s exposure of the rippling sociological effects of drinking and driving that linger “long after the cars are towed away,” is sure to promote thoughtful and meaningful discussion among students.

Highly recommended, this quality program would be of great value for use in health, physical education, or sociology courses. The video is accompanied by a helpful teacher’s guide which provides a summary of the program, learning objectives, review questions, and suggested student activities.
