Three different sections make up Newborn Issues: Circumcision Debate – expectant parents, a physician and a psychotherapist discuss the perceived medical benefits and risk factors as well as the human rights of the child and religious beliefs; Reality of Birth and Newborn – expectant parents preparing for home birth discuss their anxiety about childbirth, pain management options, a hospital backup plan, and baby necessities; Choosing a Name – suggestions on selecting a child’s first and middle names, and surnames are also discussed.

Being a new parent is a challenging and yet rewarding experience. This program which is part of a series entitled, Parenting Today: Planet Parent provides advice from seasoned parents on how to cope and deal with various aspects of parenting. The viewer will also get a glance at the new parents’ daily routine after the birth of their child, and consider the relevance of religion and ethnicity when naming their baby. Newborn Issues is strongly recommended to new parents and the other titles in the series are also recommended viewing.

Please be advised that in the Reality of Birth and Newborn section, viewers will actually see an expectant mother give birth and breastfeed her newborn baby.
