This ABC News program takes a real world look at a new form of news media, blogging. A blog is short for web log, in which individuals post their comments, thoughts, daily activities, or any other information they wish to share on the Internet. This form of news publishing has risen as one of the most controversial forms of communication. If You Can’t Beat ’Em, Blog ’Em, takes an in-depth look at how web blogging enables information to be shared and the benefits and controversy surrounding it.

The reporter featured in this program interviews a blogging “community,” in which the members of the community chronicle the reporter’s conference live via a Blog. The video also examines what it would take for an individual to publish a print article versus an online posting. In addition, the reporter explores blogging as a means of connecting individuals all over the world and what this may mean for society.

If You Can’t Beat ’Em, Blog’ Em is a well-structured and technically sound production. The technical qualities of the film are quite good. Audio, video and editing are well done. This film is recommended for public and academic library collections supporting communications, computer or technology fields.
