This program profiles three couples who are grieving the loss of a child. Consisting entirely of their speaking openly and honestly about their feelings, the program is divided into five areas: the hardest part, supporting each other, experience of suicide, remembering rituals, and searching for meaning.

All of the couples have recently lost a child, and with the exception of one couple discussing their reactions to their son’s suicide, the cause of death is not revealed. Since all three are in the midst of grieving, the details are painful and quite palpable. Feelings of anger, frustration, pain, the stress that self-centered grief can put on a relationship and the importance of remembering the child in a meaningful ways are all parts of their discussions.

Professionally produced with funding from the Calgary Health Region Grief Support Center, this program will be a good addition to library collections supporting health sciences, clinical social work, psychology, and sociology courses at the college level. It will also be a valuable addition to hospital, hospice, and counseling centers that support death and dying programs for patients.
