Copyright 101 gives a general overview of copyright law as it applies in various settings such as education, libraries, and to the general public. The video also explains the benefits of copyright protection, the process necessary to obtain it, infringement issues and damages, and the basic rights and limitations of copyright law. This video is the introduction to a 5 part series on copyright law. The rest of the series devotes more time to copyright law as it applies to educators, libraries, administrators and policymakers, and students and parents.

This video alternates between a narrator/host, an attorney who practices in copyright law, and slides that highlight the important points made by the speaker. The background is simple and non-distracting. The host and attorney are very well spoken, and they seem to take care to avoid an excess of ‘legalese.’ They provide a very thorough explanation of copyright law, understandable to the layperson.

Copyright Compliance 101 does a great job of giving a clear overview of a complex topic. This would be a great video for training/continuing education for teachers or librarians, for class discussion in law schools, or for anyone who needs a broad overview of copyright law.
