Truett Allen suffers from frontal lobe syndrome – the result of several aneurisms. Frontal lobe syndrome is considered present when there is documented damage to the brain’s frontal lobe region and the affected individual who previously functioned in normal capacity now exhibits signs such as disorganization, aimlessness and lack of motivation. Current video shots show Truett as an intelligent articulate man. Yet his family verbalizes their concerns about him not being the same old person. Through a brief series of historical family videos we are offered a glimpse of the old Truett and can readily note the differences. Drs. Elkhonon Goldberg and Oliver Sacks present a case review of Mr. Allen and discuss issues related to this particular syndrome. Among the content of this discussion are diagnostic brain images and a general presentation on functions of various regions of the brain. Goldberg and Sacks hope that through their work in this area and rehabilitative efforts that they will spure advances in this health area. This video exemplifies the ongoing work within science to advance health care. However, it also documents how little we truly understand about the intricacy of the human brain and what really makes us who we are.
