In Therese Shechter’s documentary film, I Was a Teenage Feminist, she attempts to find out what happened to feminism and why so many of today’s young educated women do not identify themselves as feminists. Using archival footage, home movies of her growing up in a suburb of Toronto, and her own current video footage, Shechter explains why she identified with the feminist movement as a teenager, why she is so conflicted with what feminism is for her today, and what other women and men think feminism is. The film is funny, bold, makes you laugh, and makes you look at feminism in a new way. It is very well done.
