Reviewed by Buzz Haughton, Shields Library, University of California at DavisThe production of chicken is a worldwide agribusiness enterprise. This film focuses on how chickens are raised and slaughtered for human consumption and the economic interconnectedness between Brazil, Cameroon and Thailand. Concentrating on Thailand, the number one producer of chicken carcasses in the world, the efficiency of chicken rendering has reached its apex, resulting in net losses in countries with more family-oriented operations like Cameroon. Through a series of interviews with Thai chicken production executives the effect of globalization in this one segment of international agribusiness is put into sharp relief. The automation of chicken processing in Thailand has resulted in economic dislocation and chaos in the less-automated countries of Cameroon and Brazil.
