Known simply as Alvar, he is one of Spain’s major living artists. He works in various mediums including painting, sculpture, ceramics and lithography. His subjects are often domestic scenes that evoke a sense of peace and spirituality. There is a positive gentleness in much of his work, and his images are readily recognizable.
A variety of experts and collectors in the arts provide commentary on Alvar's works and themes, and Alvar himself comments on his inspirations. Together they form a concise overview of the artist’s endeavors. He seems to be completely in love with life, and that love translates into the beauty of his creations.
The technical quality is very high. The majority of the dialog is in Spanish, and the voiceovers work well. I commend the choice for voiceover rather than subtitles when the subject is so visually focused. It is important to note that current video materials devoted to Alvar Sunol are virtually non-existent.
Alvar: His Vision and His Art is recommended for junior high through college libraries, and also for public libraries.
