Reviewed by Alexander Rolfe, Reference Librarian, George Fox University, Newberg, ORIslam is the fastest-growing religion in American, Canadian and British prisons. In the wake of 9-11, concern has arisen over the anti-West Wahhabi preaching. In this enlightening documentary, we hear from Muslim converts who defend the growth of Islam among prisoners. Their stories are balanced by cautionary tales. We hear from the cousin of shoe bomber Richard Reid, and there are some brief appearances by an author who opposes state-sponsored Wahhabi preaching. The narrator provides some historical context, showing the rise of Islam as a religion of protest among American blacks since the 1940's. Islam Behind Bars is informative and thought-provoking; a worthwhile addition to collections covering a variety of subject areas.
