Reviewed by Rebecca Adler, College of Staten Island, City University of New YorkMoving Picture Quartet consists of a compilation of four short works produced by the Moving Pictures Dancefilm Art Society, works that, as the company’s name suggests, involve a merging of experimental live dance with film editing. It’s not then that a finished dance is being filmed; it’s that a collaborative dancefilm (or filmdance) is being created. The dances are different one from the other, as are the dancers, as are the editing techniques practiced on them. The music for each work is original. Clearly possibilities yet to be further explored are thus opened up.
