Compulsive gambling is an addiction. Through several vignettes and a personal testimonial, viewers get an inside look at the life of a gambling addict. Teens are especially vulnerable when it comes to gambling because they have no fear of the consequences. Some falsely believe they can handle and control everything. Unfortunately, when the gambling begins to spiral out of control, many go into denial. They will borrow money from family, friends, and loan sharks; even steal to support their addiction, shirking all responsibility.

This program includes a candid account of the personal struggles of Mr. Did-Tafari Bélizaire, a gentleman who hit rock bottom because of his addiction to gambling and drugs. His problems were so intense that he attempted suicide. The entire time he is telling his personal story of addiction, the viewer sees him seated. Towards the very end of the program, the viewer comes to the realization that Mr. Bélizaire has lost the use of his legs and is now in a wheelchair.

I strongly recommend this film be shown to high school students and counselors. Mr. Bélizaire’s testimonial and the consequences of his addiction were heartbreaking. The dangers connected with problem gambling are very real, and hopefully, someone’s life will be changed after watching this film.
