Reviewed by Michael J. Coffta, Business Librarian, Bloomsburg University of PennsylvaniaThis four part series serves as an introductory survey for individuals very early in the career selection process. It does a fine job of outlining the credentials, training, certification, communication and technical skills, and personality characteristics one needs to enter and advance in professions in finance, management, marketing, and government and public administration. The viewer receives a clear outline of what one might expect in a profession, and given “stories from the trenches” from current professionals within the field. There is a good sampling of related fields as well. The disk entitled “Government and Public Administration” gives a unique and intriguing portrayal of serving as an elected official or municipal manager as closely related to that of being a CEO. This same disk, however, is not as tightly grouped as the other disks with clearly business-oriented professions, in that it discusses police work, park directors, and several other government careers.
Career Clusters is a very good surface examination of a host of career opportunities. This series comes recommended to high school students at the “browsing” stage of selecting career avenues.
