“Paddlers Abreast” boat number 37 joins 168 participants from 6 countries in the Yukon River race, the longest canoe and kayak race in the world. Seven women control the oars - seemingly rugged, outdoor types. But appearances deceive. All are breast cancer survivors challenged to re-build physical endurance and psychological strength. They will conquer the river and through that accomplishment attempt to conquer their cancer. Their quest brings comfort. There is nothing to be afraid of in the boat. The “spirit of the boat” creates fluidity between them. Negative energy releases from their bodies. They laugh. They glow. The boat captain runs her tenth race. Surely if she survives so can the rest. Edith joins the boat three years earlier. This year she is not here but her husband hurries as the boat pushes off. He hands the boat captain Edith’s ashes. The captain knows exactly where to scatter them on the river. “The rolling river carries us on….”

Enhanced with thematic unity, artistic flair, visual impact, delicate art, and true beauty both in nature and the teamwork of racers, River of Life touches that place deep inside where spirit and courage meet. Truly a therapeutic awakening.

Extremely highly recommended.
