Herring, The Ohio State University, Columbus, OHTelevision’s Kid Guides is hosted by teens, Matt and Brittney who the travel the globe to give young audiences a look inside the fascinating and interactive Franklin Institute in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and The International Spy Museum in Washington D.C. Hosts begin by sharing brief information about each city and its historical significance. Both episodes expose children to the unique hands-on opportunities available at the specialized institutions.
The first segment offers a creative way for viewers to learn about the human heart and how the body works. A short tour is taken through a giant beating heart and much more. The second episode takes Matt and Brittney to the “Operation Secret Slumber,” where kids go on an all night mission to uncover the secret agent within the group. The Kid Guides website also provides clips of various shows and is full of interesting information about the hosts.
Kid Guides has received a generous number of awards including an Emmy and the “Seal of Approval” from the Parents Television Council. The DVD would be a great addition to any public library or school media collection.
