Any good documentary will leave you to feel as if you’ve learned something, yet also realize a great lack of knowledge. I Named Her Angel accomplishes this by introducing the audience to the concept of Mevlevism, a belief that falls within Islam, and relies on a very defined and spiritual dance called the Sema. The Sema brings participants closer to Allah through the symbolic dance and twisting movements better known as whirling dervishes in the western world. While the content is in fine form, technically it is not ready for television airplay. Steady shooting and reasonably good lighting along with highly readable subtitles make the film fairly good for an obviously small budget production. There is no main menu on the DVD, and there are no extras or bonus parts. This film is recommended, especially for any collections with depth in the area of religion or the study of Islam.
