Those looking for a typical documentary will not find it here. Through photographs, interviews, and handheld video cameras, Torossian uses manipulated images and a continuous juxtaposition of music, ambient sound and dialogue to explore the mental, emotional, and physical journeys of real and imagined women from the Armenian diaspora to their “homeland.” These women seek a connection to a mythologized Armenia, and encounter stories of the unending tragedies that faced Armenia during the 20th century—including genocide, poverty, earthquakes, and war—and witness the endurance of the Armenian people. Through their search, these women find that by developing a truer understanding of Armenia, they have developed a truer understanding of themselves and of humanity.

Dialogue is in English or Armenian with English subtitles.

Highly recommended for those libraries collecting material about the Armenian diaspora or experimental filmmaking.
