Do You Have an Eating Disorder? is a serious, but uplifting video that introduces the viewer to the various types of eating disorders and their resultant health consequences. Did you know that eating disorders commonly appear during adolescence or in young adulthood? Women and young girls are considerably more likely to encounter these health problems over males, although it has been reported that 10 percent of people suffering from this disease are indeed male. This video captures a candid glimpse of the biological, behavior, and social underpinnings of eating disorders while focusing on the experiences of those who have gone through and survived these debilitating illnesses. The message of this video is prevention through education. Raising awareness of the dangers surrounding eating disorders, as well as early intervention by knowing the signs, gives viewers of this DVD much optimism for hope and recovery. Additionally this resource takes the shame and blame away from these life threatening, but treatable mental illnesses. This DVD does an excellent service in taking away the stigma and mystique of eating disorders.

This highly recommended DVD comes with a teacher resource guide of activities and learning objectives that furthers students' understanding about eating disorders. A pre and post test worksheet and a bibliography of online resources make this resource an excellent starting place for classroom teachers and parents. Other videos from Human Relations Media can be used to compliment the subject of eating disorders. However this DVD and teacher guide can stand alone. This resource will be of great value to those who have the responsibility of developing a health and nutrition curriculum.
