Reviewed by Malcolm L. Rigsby, Department of Sociology, Ouachita Baptist University, Arkadelphia, ARIn 2005, President Bush acclaimed the progress of Egypt in leading the way toward democracy in the Middle East. The Egyptian political elections that followed the Bush proclamation somewhat failed to exemplify the democratic spirit of free elections.
In an effort to vitalize the election process in Egypt, three professional women joined efforts to create Shayfeen.com. The organization’s slogan quickly became “we are watching you”. This documentary is positive spotlight that traces the advancements of the organization and its activism in bringing grassroots campaigning to Egypt.
I highly recommend this video to anyone interested in grassroots organization using media and information and communication technologies. It is professionally shot and edited and I look to see more from these directors.
