Reviewed by Sebastian Derry, Temple UniversityThis loving tribute to the artist, painter and sculptor Herbert Creecy (1939-2003) celebrates the joy he brought to his own work, and the lives of those who knew him.
Primarily an abstract expressionist painter working in acrylic paint on canvas, Creecy is seen at work experimenting with a variety of painting techniques throughout his life, including air compressors, polyurethane transfer, and collage.
As one of the South’s most prolific artists, he worked and lived in his Barnesville, Georgia studio for the last 20 years of his life. Part of the film takes us inside this studio overflowing with his art, offering close-up look at many of his paintings and sculptures.
Creecy’s friends, curators and collectors reminisce and evoke the spirit of an artist who boldly lived and worked on his own terms.
This disc is part of the 10-disc series Artists Of Vision from Chip Taylor Communications.
Highly recommended for all libraries.
