Reviewed by Brad Eden, Associate University Librarian for Technical Services and Scholarly Communication, University of California, Santa BarbaraThis installment of the highly-acclaimed America in the 20th Century series focuses on the Cold War, that time period after World War II and up to the fall of the Berlin Wall when the United States and the Soviet Union became nuclear military powers. Topics that are discussed in this 2-DVD set include: how the Cold War started; how it was contained (Truman Doctrine, Marshall Plan); communism in China and the Korean War; McCarthyism; the Khrushchev regime; other American military incidents such as Guatemala and the Suez Crisis; the Kennedy presidency and the Bay of Pigs incident; détente; the Reagan presidency and the Evil Empire theory; and finally the fall of the Berlin Wall. There is a downloadable teacher’s guide and classroom activities in conjunction with this series. A very good tool for learning about American history in the 20th Century.
