Reviewed by Barbara Butler, University of Oregon Institute of Marine BiologyOne More Dead Fish is a provocative documentary which tells the story of Canadian fishermen who seize and occupy a Fisheries and Oceans office building in order to draw media attention to the decimation of Grand Banks fisheries. The directors tell their story by interviewing fishermen, biologists, government officials and industry executives and then weaving in newsreel footage to highlight the complexities of this environmental issue and to underscore the inequities suffered by the near-shore environmentally-friendly handline fishery. Viewers learn about the history and politics of fishing as well as the impacts that globalized fisheries have had on fish habitat and fish stocks. One More Dead Fish is well-researched, well-edited and engaging. It has received a number of awards and I highly recommend it to school, public and college libraries.
