The content from Curriculum in a Box: Alcohol is a well organized unit that serves as a mobile kit making it easy for teachers to use. The teacher’s resource guide contains program summaries for each unit complementing each DVD. A variety of lesson plans and student activities are provided with a CD for reproducible student worksheets. The kit also includes a PowerPoint Presentation addressing The Dangers of Alcohol: Substance Abuse. Unit topics cover: (1) Alcohol and the Body; (2) Alcohol and Society; (3) Alcohol and the Law; (4) Alcohol and the Family; (5) and an Alcohol Review. Together, the resource guide and DVDs provide useful tools for teens to guard themselves against peer pressure relating to alcohol abuse. Clips are well directed teen-centered portrayals and enactments of real-life situations. Peer group discussions cover the extreme dangers and consequences of underage drinking while youth share their experiences of convictions and accounts of long-term consequences. Videos are compelling and thought provoking as families share true stories of loss due to alcohol abuse leading to the establishment of “Sean’s Law.”

Curriculum in a Box: Alcohol, can be used in junior and high school libraries as well as academic libraries as a resource for teachers and teacher education programs. The curriculum is appropriate in addressing a variety of subjects for educators who teach aspects of health and/or sex education.
