Aimed at students of fashion design, Destination Fashion: India delivers a fast-paced, engaging glimpse into a newly-emerging center of the global fashion industry.

Interviews with established as well as up-and-coming designers, magazine editors and photographers, plus fashionistas on the street are punctuated with scenes from trendy shops in Delhi and Mumbai, sumptuously-attired wedding parties, designers’ studios and crafters’ workshops, Bollywood films and fashion show runways.

Viewers discover how modern designers preserve and showcase traditional Indian handicrafts in their work, how the biggest fashion occasion in an Indian woman’s life, her wedding, impacts the industry, and how India’s movie capital drives fashion trends throughout the country.

Picture and sound quality are excellent, and pacing is brisk. One minor complaint: some viewers may struggle to understand the heavily-accented English of a few of the interviewees (no subtitles). Six chapters, ranging from two to seven minutes long, are marked for easy access to specific topics. Two other films in the Destination Fashion series cover London and Copenhagen.

In all, this is an enjoyable introduction to fashion design in a country poised to make its mark in world couture.
