Inner and outer beauty are qualities sought by most people, but few realize just how interconnected the “inner” is with the “outer” beauty. This film of a live audience production with Dr. Michael Roizen which aired on public television (part of his series of health programs, e.g., You on a Diet) explores the science of aging and other beauty challenges.

Making use of visual props and the framework of a typical day for most Americans, Dr. Roizen and guests Paula Begoun (cosmetics specialist) and Dr. Arthur Perry (plastic surgeon) provide an engaging and fresh presentation that includes many practical tips for both men and women. The bonus features, especially the Staying Safe with Plastic Surgery portion featuring Dr. Perry, are very helpful. The only concern is perhaps the appropriate audience for this DVD. The fast pace of the presentation along with the fairly high level of education required to grasp the scientific concepts offered inevitably limit its appeal. It is noted in the promotional materials for the program that it is based on Dr. Roizen’s book, You Being Beautiful: The Owner’s Manual to Inner and Outer Beauty. A book club studying that book might be the best target audience for this program, as it may be assumed that such a group’s understanding of the DVD would benefit from the background information found in the book.
