The purpose of this informative video is to increase teen awareness of the harmful effects of using tobacco in any form. Through interviews with doctors and tobacco use victims and their families, this video attempts to dissuade young adults from becoming tobacco users or to convince current users to stop. This video also uses computer graphics, TV-style narration and scripted teen reactions to the presented facts.

The negative and harmful effects of tobacco use covered in this video include:

  • Diseases such as lung cancer, emphysema, cancer of the larynx and chronic bronchitis

  • A shorter life span

  • Cosmetic changes like "smoker's face," stained teeth and smoke odor

  • Social restrictions such as being controlled by the physical and psychological need to smoke several times an hour and not being able to do so in airplanes, the workplace, movie theaters and many restaurants

  • Hindered job prospects since some employers may not want to hire and/or insure tobacco users
The picture and sound of this video are crisp and clear, and it is a well-made educational video. It is recommended for libraries serving teen audiences, such as middle school, high school and public libraries.
