Reviewed by Michael J. Coffta, Business Librarian, Bloomsburg University of PennsylvaniaThis documentary features Miep Gies, a woman who worked for the Opekta office in Amsterdam during World War II and helped keep the Frank family from discovery by the Nazis. She gives stirring stories of the Frank family's day to day life. She provides an enormous amount of detail about the family's demeanor and how bravely they faced the lack of simple pleasures, such as walking outside or even looking out a window. Miep Gies describes the liberation of Amsterdam and the events leading up to the publication of Anne Frank's diary.
This film is an outstanding work with a tremendous amount of detail. The details are so extensive that it may lose younger viewers. I recommend this film for public and academic libraries, and recommend it to viewers with a scrupulous interest in history.
