Reviewed by Brad Eden, Associate University Librarian for Technical Services and Scholarly Communication, University of California, Santa BarbaraThis DVD contains two separate documentaries, both of which appear to have been produced in the 1980s: Moon Landing: Apollo 11 and NASA: The First 25 Years. Each documentary is distinct from the other. The Apollo 11 mission saw the first man step foot on a foreign planetary body, and this documentary records the various steps, stages, and challenges that took place from President Kennedy's 1961 speech to send a man to the moon before 1970 to the actual event. A second documentary examines the history of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) from its inception in 1958 through its first 25 years.
Both programs are top notch, with unique footage and rare photos and film. These are excellent documentaries for any science and technology class, and 20th century American history class. The DVD I reviewed did not come with special features; there is a DVD that comes with features such as a guide book, NASA accomplishments, and President Kennedy's New Conferences Regarding Space 1961.
