TLC has a long-running show, Baby Story, which focuses on a different family during the periods just before, during, and after childbirth. The Miracle of Birth 3 uses that same approach in its coverage of five different “birth stories,” each no more than 12 minutes long. Employing a diverse set of ethnic and sociodemographic family types, each vignette also covers the spectrum of potential birth outcomes, from natural to VBAC to cesarean section. That the stories also focus on a range of ages from adolescent to “mature” mothers is another point in its favor. Each story also highlights the role of a supporter, whether it’s a husband, a mother or a doula.

These stories, either singly or together (they’re set up to run separately as independent films) would work well incorporated into childbirth education classes for parents, especially since they demonstrate the various outcomes of birth, and help to orient parents to what to expect in the labor and delivery room.
