This DVD is an excellent guide for educators and students seeking relevant solutions to ecological problems based on the “Green Schools Initiative” established in 2004. Viewers are introduced to a variety of educational institutions across the country taking a holistic approach to teaching environmental education for 21st Century learners.

The 90 minute video is divided into two parts that capture in-depth accounts of how these specialized schools are created; and how ecological concepts are translated into proactive involvement beyond the classroom and ultimately into the workforce. The video provides a downloadable Growing Greener Schools Handbook, 12 curriculum modules for grades 6-12, and 6 interactive games.

PBS and The Media and Policy Center Foundation have created an important resource for educators to find innovative ways to engage youths in inquiry and involve them in working beyond the classroom walls. While the video provides an opportunity to promote life-long learning, it also supports the values of school and global sustainability.

The video is of high quality and is highly recommended for all educators and students who want to make a difference in understanding the impact we have on the environment as a society.
