Reviewed by Eugenia Abbey, Georgia Perimeter CollegeThis informative film introduces the viewer to four teenagers with depression and two experienced mental health professionals who study and treat depressed teens. The adolescents discuss their feelings and how they experience depression along with what they have tried to alleviate their condition. Causes of depression, symptoms and coping mechanisms are discussed along with treatment and eventual recovery. The professionals discuss treatment strategies, the consequences of no treatment and the complexities of dealing with the developing brain coupled with hormonal changes. The result is a positive message of recovery, a fresh start and hope. Technical quality is very high; the film transitions smoothly between clinicians and patients. It is an effective tool for use with teens and their parents to encourage them to accept treatment and to improve their level of understanding of the condition. It is suitable for undergraduate psychology students as well. This is a strong selection for high school, college and public libraries.
