Joseph Lovett, the producer of this film, also suffers from glaucoma. Because of his worsening vision issues and the difficulty in getting his doctors to address his future in an open and honest manner, he was motivated to develop and produce a film on vision loss. At times highly auto-biographical, he uses his insights and candor to get others to open up about their feelings related to their vision loss. “Learn how to use what you have” – a phrase used by art teacher Jessica Jones captures the essential emotional framework of all the participants in this documentary on various forms of vision loss. Through very personal stories such as Jessica the art teacher, the film presents information on a number of the more common types of vision loss such as diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, retinitis pigmentosa, glaucoma, strabismus, and traumatic injury. Those stories provide details on the nature of the disorder, potential treatments and in each case how the individual has accepted the challenges and adapted in an alternate manner to move forward in life. Although their stories may appear to be the exception, the producer’s point in making the film was to encourage others who may be having or have had vision loss not to lose hope, or lock yourself away. To that end, it appears he has succeeded
